Using the Movie Camera as a
Digital Still Camera
(Mega-Pixel Still-Picture Recording~Card
Photoshot)
The Movie Camera can be used as a Digital Still
Camera to record clear still pictures on the
MultiMediaCard. The size of the pictures that can be
recorded using this Movie Camera is 1.80 million
pixels, and recording pictures of this size is called
Mega-Pixel (over 1 million pixels) Still-Picture
Recording. Compared with normally recorded pictures,
pictures produced by Mega-Pixel Still-Picture
Recording are printed out more clearly. When pictures
are to be printed out, print them from the
MultiMediaCard. Otherwise, clear Mega-Pixel Pictures
cannot be obtained.
≥Sound is not recorded.
≥The Shutter Effect (p. 31) cannot be used.
≥The power is automatically turned off after about
6 minutes when a cassette has been inserted.
≥Mega-Pixel Still-Picture Recording on the cassette is
not possible.
≥Electromagnetic waves, static electricity, malfunction
of the Movie Camera or of the MultiMediaCard itself
could erase the data recorded on it. To prevent the
loss of picture data, it is recommended that you make
a backup copy on a cassette (p. 74) or on the
computer. (p. 88, 96)
≥Before pressing the [PHOTO SHOT] Button, it is
recommended that you press the [STILL] Button to
check the picture.
3
Select the desired
picture quality using
[PICTURE QUALITY] on
the [CARD SETUP]
Sub-Menu.
4
Set [LOW LIGHT SHOT] on the [CARD SETUP] Sub-
Menu to [AUTO], and exit from the Menu.
Quality of Card Photoshot Pictures
You can choose among 3 picture quality modes for
the Card Photoshot Function.
Maximum recordable number of pictures on the
supplied 8 MB MultiMediaCard
When the picture size is 1568t1152 pixels
FINE: Approx. 10 pictures
NORMAL: Approx. 20 pictures
ECONOMY: Approx. 30 pictures
When the picture size is 640t480 pixels
FINE: Approx. 50 pictures
NORMAL: Approx. 100 pictures
ECONOMY: Approx. 200 pictures
≥When recording in more than one mode (FINE,
NORMAL, ECONOMY) on the same
MultiMediaCard, the maximum recordable number
differs from the numbers indicated above.
≥The maximum recordable numbers are
approximations. When recording intricate pictures
with fine details, the number of recordable still
pictures on the MultiMediaCard decreases due to
their large data volume.
≥
To record even more still pictures, it is recommended
that you use a Card with a larger memory capacity.
≥To record pictures in high quality, set [PICTURE
QUALITY] on the [CARD SETUP] Sub-Menu to
[FINE]; to record as many pictures as possible, set
it to [ECONOMY].
≥When you select [ECONOMY] for recording, the
playback picture may contain mosaic-like noise
patterns depending on the picture content.
5
Press the [PHOTO
SHOT] Button at the
scene that you want to
record.
Concerning Card Photoshots
≥Recording onto a cassette is not possible when the [TAPE/CARD] Selector is at
the [CARD] setting.
≥The Progressive Photoshot Function is set to [ON]. (p. 32)
≥When recording in the Auto Mode, the shutter speed is automatically adjusted to a
setting within the range of 1/25 to 1/500.
≥If the screen colours change or the screen flickers, adjust the shutter speed
manually to 1/25, 1/50 or 1/125. (p. 62)
≥The picture quality deteriorates slightly when pictures are viewed on a TV screen
or LCD Monitor.
≥The following functions or operations can no longer be used.
≥
Digital Zoom (p. 31)
≥
Cinema Mode (p. 34)
≥
Wide Mode (p. 34)
≥
Digital Effect Function (p. 50–59)
≥
Title In/Creation (p. 78, 80) (Mega-Pixel Still-Picture Recording Mode only)
≥
Frame Mode (p. 33)
≥
Colour Bar (p. 64)
≥The pictures on the Card can be recorded onto a cassette, however their quality
will deteriorate since they cannot be recorded using the Mega-Pixel Function.
Concerning Low Light Shot
≥When recording dark scenes, set [LOW LIGHT SHOT] to [AUTO]. (When the
shutter speed is 1/25, Low Light Shot is activated, and the [4
CARD
] Indication
appears.)
≥The picture’s brightness may change in the Low Light Shot Mode.
≥When the shutter speed or the Programme AE Mode is set, Low Light Shot will not
be activated even when [LOW LIGHT SHOT] is set to [AUTO].
Others
≥To view pictures recorded using the Card Photoshot Function on a TV screen or
LCD Monitor rather than printing them out, it is recommended that [640k480] be
selected as the setting in step 2. (In this case, Mega-Pixel Still-Picture Recording
will not be performed.)
≥It is recommended that you press the [STILL] Button first and then press the
[PHOTO SHOT] Button where the recording is to be performed to put the Movie
Camera in the Still Picture Mode.

Camera in the Camera
